In a significant move to enhance affordability and cater to the diverse needs of consumers, leading telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have announced substantial reductions in the prices of their voice-only plans. This development comes in the wake of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) urging service providers to offer more cost-effective options for users who primarily rely on voice calls and SMS services.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has been actively monitoring the telecom sector to ensure that consumers have access to affordable and relevant service plans. Recognizing a gap in offerings for users who predominantly use voice and SMS services without significant data consumption, TRAI mandated telecom operators to introduce and revise plans that exclude data services, thereby reducing costs for this specific user segment.

In alignment with TRAI’s directive, Reliance Jio has introduced new voice and SMS-only plans, making them more accessible to a broader audience:

Annual Plan: Originally priced at ₹1,958, this plan has been reduced to ₹1,748. It offers unlimited voice calls and 3,600 SMS with a validity of 336 days.

84-Day Plan: The price of this plan has been decreased from ₹458 to ₹448, providing unlimited voice calls and 1,000 SMS over 84 days.

These adjustments reflect Jio’s commitment to providing affordable communication solutions tailored to users who prioritize voice and messaging services over data.

Not to be outdone, Bharti Airtel has also revised its voice and SMS-only plans to offer better value to its customers:

84-Day Plan: Reduced from ₹499 to ₹469, this plan includes unlimited voice calls and 1,000 SMS for the 84-day duration.

Annual Plan: The yearly plan’s price has been cut from ₹1,959 to ₹1,849, offering unlimited voice calls and 3,600 SMS over 365 days.

Airtel’s proactive approach ensures that users seeking long-term voice and messaging services have access to cost-effective options.

In response to the evolving market dynamics, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has highlighted its existing voice-only plan, which has gained renewed attention:

90-Day Plan: Priced at ₹439, this plan offers unlimited voice calls and SMS with a validity of 90 days, positioning it as one of the most affordable options in the market.

BSNL’s offering provides a compelling alternative for users prioritizing voice and messaging services.

The recent price reductions by Jio and Airtel are a direct response to TRAI’s emphasis on making basic connectivity more accessible. These new prices are advantageous for consumers who prefer calling and messaging over data. Airtel’s additional perks, such as Apollo 24/7 Circle membership, add value, while Jio’s 5G readiness and entertainment access cater to diverse user needs.

The telecom industry’s swift response to TRAI’s directive underscores a commitment to consumer-centric offerings. The revised voice-only plans by Jio, Airtel, and BSNL provide users with more affordable and tailored options, ensuring that communication remains accessible to all, regardless of data usage preferences.
