What are the benefits of 5G internet connections?
More bandwidth/faster connection is the allure of each new generation. Of course, this assumes adequate tower coverage, which is not always guaranteed. For starters, 5G has a shorter range than its predecessors, requiring towers to be closer together and additional tower locations to be acquired. I’ve heard of at least two cities in California that have halted 5G deployment pending further research into potential health risks.
Furthermore, for any significant number of subscribers, infrastructure improvements will be required to support the data rates claimed by 5G. Supporting 1.4 Gbps between the tower and the handset is one thing, but getting all that data between the tower and the Internet is another. Furthermore, very few (if any) servers are available.
